Design Festival Design Night Tallinn, Sept 23-26, 2010

The fifth design festival Design Night (DisainiÖÖ) promotes the application of creativity in the fields of activity of modern lifestyles in the nam eof creating a better physical and social environment, cultural tourism and cultural entertainment. The events encompass design, architecture, art, cinema, music, etc.

The international conference about Design at your Service will be the lead-in to the festival. Lectures of international notoriety will speak about Cities For All, Design Management etc. International workshops for Improving the accessibility and social inclusion will follow under the name Tallinn For All in cooperation with Culture-Capital Tallinn 2011.

Estonian design prize BRUNO will be delivered and the exhibition will be opened.

At DisainiÖÖ, it will be possible to see the core of Estonian design within the buildings of the old flour storage of Rotermann Quartier (where Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker was filmed). Design festival will host also international expositions from Holland (Out of Box, Dutch Bike Fantasy)  Portugal (demo-POLIS).

Visitors to the festival will be offered installations created especially for the festival, fashion shows and the chance to participate in culinary; packaging (Simone de Waart) and sketching (Gregor Krisztian and Björn Koop) workshops and the fund-raising Disainioksjon (Design auction). Pecha Kucha will bring together a lot of architects and designers who will share their thoughts. A drive-in cinema will come to the streets of the city.

Museums,galleries, shops will be open longer than usual, hosting special events, product presentations, promoting cultural trade and contemporary lifestyle values.

Disainiöö have been selected from among projects within the “Tallinn –Culture Capital of Europe 2011”programme. The festival has won 2 local prizes.
