Sustainability
Sustainability aims on the protection of natural ecological systems. A sustainable lifestyle helps to bear up and persist. Petroleum and oil resources will last for only 40-60 more years. Coal resources will suffice for 1000 more years, although the use of coal as an alternative source of energy is connected with issues like acid rain and carbon dioxide exhaust. Accordingly, instead of resources that pollute the environment we should be increasingly using resources that don't.
Did you know that:
- ca. 425 kg of municipal waste are produced in Estonia per resident per year
- approximately 120 000 - 130 000 tons of packaging waste are produced in Estonia each year
- it takes paper 2.5 months to decompose in nature, a Tetra Pak and cellophane 5 and 10-20 years respectively
- about 8% of the world petroleum production are used to produce plastic material
- every ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees
- the less energy is consumed for the production of a certain unit of material, the environmentally friendlier a material is
At the Design Night the winners of the contest "Ethical Estonian Souvenir" will be announced and the exhibition will be held, the visitors can listen to lectures about sustainability and recycling in the fashion industry on 25.September and participate in the fashion show "Why is life the way it is" on 26. September.
