Innovation
The term innovation is derived from Latin - in means inside, into; and nova means new - as a direct translation innovation means to bring in something new. Innovation is a radical and revolutionary change in thinking, products, processes or organisation. The aim of innovation is a positive change; to improve a product or the process of its creation. That is what marks an invention, a discovery, the innovative use of new or available knowledge in an economic process that will create profit for a company. History knows 2 examples of innovation that led to major changes - the transistor and the laser. Examples of product and service innovation: Skype; Apple; process innovation: increasing efficiency of a company’s production process - Tetra Pak; marketing innovation - use of innovative design solutions and marketing methods (IKEA, H&M)
During the Design Night you will find out about other examples of innovation at the seminar "Innovation inspired by design" on 24.September. Giovanni Benedetti, Per Mollerup, Arto Ruokonen, Bjorn Koop and many others will take the floor. |
